Plein Air to Studio Paintings

Recently, I was plein air painting at Land’s End in San Francisco. Whenever on location, I talk numerous photographs with my Canon EOS T2i camera. The plein air piece was a 8 x 10. Back in my studio, I use the plein air study to help with color harmony when I work on a larger studio piece. This 18 x 24 oil painting of the same scene was created using my plein air study as the model along with photographs taken that day. My belief is the more you plein air paint, the more you are able to create larger studio paintings with a similar plein air feel to them. Having been on location allows my mind to transform back as I paint in my studio. Photo colors can be elusive so having the study is a valuable reference tool. What tips help you transform your plein air work into studio pieces?
