Composition Choice for Well Known Scenes

This 12 x 16 oil painting is of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. However, rather than give the viewer a typical straight-on view of the entire bridge, this composition provides interest through the lower vantage point. Fort Point is at the base of the bridge. On this foggy day, your eye doesn’t see all of the bridge. Anyone who has been to San Francisco and made a trip to the Golden Gate Bridge on a foggy day is going to instantly reminisce on the experience from viewing this scene. I think that is a hallmark an artist can achieve with a painting  – illicit a memory of a place once lived or visited. Sometimes I walk around a well known monument or place for a long time to find that angle or view that provides interest without being cliché.
